As a church we want to welcome and value children and young people. On most Sunday's the children and
young people stay in the main service for the first 20mins or so. After
this they then go to their own age-related activities. Visiting
children are very welcome to either go out with the other childen or
stay in the main service with their parent(s). The congregation at St. Mary's is certainly not put off by children moving about or being noisey!
For pre-school children there is a corner of the building that is laid out with simple activities (play-doh etc). There are also 'Toy Bags' that are available for children to use. At the moment there is no separate creche facility, however, when the reordering is complete there will be a separate room for parents with young children and/or babies.
There is a team of people that run the children's work in the
church. They meet monthly to plan the theme for that month which is
also the theme for the all-age service on the 3rd Sunday.
The 2009 theme was '12 ness' for living a good life' with the following being explored with the children and during the all-age service of that month:
